Whispers Publishing (out of business?)
Twice the tempo, twice the protection, twice the pleasure.
When Sin Crawford and Trace Buchannan start their security firm, they have no idea it will lead them back into Caitlyn Pruitt’s life. Cait left Sin when she realized he liked to share his women with his best friend. Now, years later and many life experiences between them, Sin and Trace take on a body guarding gig for pop singing sensation, Astrid, only to realize the young diva has hired Cait to choreograph the dance moves in her next music video.
Not about to lose Cait from their lives again, both men are determined to dish out their best moves this time around to win her over once and for all…as long as they don’t let their target get killed by a dangerous stalker in the progress.
When I first selected this book for review I made a quick glance at the cover and assumed it was m/m—which is what I usually review for Naughty Edition. But a few pages in and I realized, whoa, there’s a chick in this. Well, the writing was clean, well done and enjoyable so I continued and I was glad I did.
The story tells of two best friends, Sin and Trace, who run security and get hired to protect a bratty pop star (think Miley Cyrus). They will go undercover as dancers in the star’s video. The surprise is that the pop star’s dance instructor is Cait…..the woman from their past.
Several years ago Sin was dating Cait, but his best friend Trace was always there, being sexy and distracting. Unable to resist temptation, one night Trace kissed her. When Sin saw it, she thought it would be the end of their relationship but rather than being mad, he wanted to join in. This was too much for Cait to deal with and she ran, leaving both men with broken hearts.
Now back to present day. The two guys not only must protect the pop star from a vengeful stalker, but they also realize that this might be there one and only chance to convince Cait that she has room in her heart and her bed for both of them.
Overall the writing was excellent, the sex appropriately spicy and I thoroughly enjoyed the suspenseful twist at the end. Too often ménage books are lacking in plot, but this one does not disappoint. I won’t give spoilers, but if you are looking for a quick, spicy ménage, pick up ALL THE WRONG MOVES and enjoy.
Overall Enjoyment: 4

Women’s Fiction, Contemporary Romance
One glance was all it took…
I’m a cheater.
I’m a liar.
My whole life is a mess.
I love a man.
No, I love two men…
One makes love to me. The other sets me on fire.
One is my rock. The other is my kryptonite.
I’m broken, lost, and disgusted with myself.
But I can’t stop. This is my story.
My broken love story.
Wrecked. That is really the only way I can describe how I feel after reading this book. It’s a little over a week since I’ve finished it and I’m still reeling from it and processing it. I knew from the beginning that this wasn’t a fairy tale romance novel. I knew I was in for an emotion disaster. What I didn’t know was that I was going to be left emotionally devastated after reading it.
I don’t think I have ever hated a main character as much as I hate Cathy. If she were a real person, I would probably have to kick her ass for being such a selfish BITCH! That’s really the only way I can describe her. Despite hating her, I did connect with her. I felt genuinely sorry for the pain and struggles that she had to deal with, but I can’t fathom why she felt that cheating on her adoring husband with a twit like Arsen would make anything better. I probably would have understood more if she had turned to drugs. But then I suppose I wouldn’t have read this beautifully heart-breaking book.
Plot: 5. This book is about a selfish woman who thinks of no one but herself, doesn’t give a damn about who she destroys with her actions and is incapable of real love for anyone other than herself. The story is told mainly through Cathy’s POV, but does have a few wonderful flashbacks that give us glimpses into Ben and Cathy’s history together, as well as a few chapters from both Ben and Arsen’s POV.
Cathy and Ben have been together for 11 years and are unable to conceive a child. After years of heartbreak over miscarriages, Cathy decides that the best way to handle her grief and self-imposed guilt is to have an affair with the much younger (sexy as hell) bad boy, Arsen. (This will only make sense to heartless, selfish women.) While Cathy may be trying to alleviate her own pain, she is destroying two men in the process – Ben, her kind, caring and ever-devoted husband, along with Arsen. While Ben is the epitome of the perfect husband, Arsen is the typical spoiled rich kid who also only thinks of himself. While neither deserve the pain that Cathy causes, watching (reading actually) how she shatters Ben’s heart was gut-wrenching. I can’t tell you the amount of tears that I shed reading this book.
Sex: 4. This book is about cheating therefore this story contains a lot of graphic sex scenes. While I absolutely adored the sex scenes between Brad and Cathy, the scenes with Cathy and Arsen were painful for me to read, despite being wickedly hot. My heart broke a little more for Brad each and every time Arsen and Cathy were together.
Overall: 5. Even though this book did not leave me feeling warm and fuzzy upon completion, I still absolutely loved it and think it is one of the best books this year. I think one of my favorite things about this book was that it seemed so real to me. I could really see this happening to people or maybe it was that I felt so connected to these characters that I thought they were real. Either way, I walked away from the book feeling as though I hadn’t just read a “broken love story.” I walked away feeling I had just lived and experienced one myself.
This book will bring you out of your comfort zone and break you down bit by heart-breaking bit. While it may have been an emotionally exhausting journey, I am so glad that I was willing to take it. I will never forget this book and how it made me feel and to realize that some clichés are spot on and that you never know what you’ve got until it’s gone, but some clichés are dead wrong because the grass is NOT always greener on the other side. Just ask Cathy.

The Food and Fornication Fables
By Manuela Cardiga
Gorgeous, narcissistic Lance Packhard—a sex therapist specializing in helping anorgasmic women—is writing a revolutionary book entitled Sexual Secrets of a Sexual Surrogate.
When a ruthless mother offers him an enormous sum to impregnate her daughter, Millicent Deafly, a debt-ridden Lance hesitantly agrees.
Millicent, however, isn’t into sex. She’s carefree, joyfully voluptuous, and dedicated to her palate. Lance will only get her attention if he dabs soy sauce on his pulse points.
To get close to her, a determined Lance takes a job at Millicent’s dinner club, Guilty Pleasures, as an assistant to her irascible and eccentric chef, Serge Moreno.
But for Lance, nothing goes according to plan. He’s not only failing to seduce Millie, he’s falling madly in love with her.
Lance’s life becomes next to impossible when his best friend, George, gets married and wants to hold the reception at Guilty Pleasures. Will the truth be uncovered?
Manuela Cardiga was born in Mozambique and raised in South Africa where she studied fashion design. She moved to Europe where she worked as a fashion designer, then moved to the crazy world of advertising as a graphic designer and copywriter. Manuela is a designer by profession, a cook by vocation, and a writer by compulsion. She currently resides in Lisbon, Portugal where she writes contemporary and historical fiction, designs book covers, illustrates children’s books, and mothers a gorgeous daughter while juggling a day job. She also dabbles enthusiastically in exotic, experimental cuisine, much to the discomfort of family and friends.
Praise for Guilty Pleasures
A Review of Guilty Pleasures
At last, we have that absolute rarity: a titillating novel which is multi-layered, intelligently written and very, very funny.
Manuela Cardiga allows us to ride alongside Lance Packhard as he sets out on a cynical mission involving seduction and finds himself seduced by life itself. To say more would be unfair as watching this growth provides much of the entertainment.
All the characters are strongly drawn. There is Millicent Deafly, a single woman of quiet strength, who has channelled her creativity and skills into producing feasts of almost carnal delight. There is Serge Moreno, a physically stunted man who has survived every misfortune (sexual and social) that can be imagined and by embracing these has turned them into empathy and wisdom. There is Millicent’s unappreciative mother, narrow- minded and set in her ways, and many grateful clients who are defined by their guilty pleasures.
Manuela Cardiga is obviously a lover of classical as well as modern fiction, as the pages of Guilty Pleasures frequently contain wholly appropriate and delightfully witty references which like-minded souls will enjoy. This is not to say that her work is in any way pretentious or difficult to read. Her prose is crisp and her novel will keep her readers up late to complete “just one more chapter”.
Obviously the erotic content will attract discussion, and it is here that the novel becomes exceptional. Yes, it is explicit, but in a way which never cheapens the sexual aspect. It celebrates what the act of lovemaking can become, given mutual respect and tenderness. It is an important part of the novel, as it is in life, and it becomes part of a rich tableau painted by an author whose sense of humour is perfectly balanced by her sense of what is noble.
On a similar note, most chapters begin with a few words of advice for aspiring suitors. Yes, they are amusing, but their truth will, I suspect, result in many copies being given by women to their partners in the hopes that good sense will strike a chord and their love lives will soar.
One cannot end a review of Guilty Pleasures without mentioning the other delight which parallels the sexual ones. The joy of food permeates every aspect of the novel. It is decadent, delightful and completely indulgent. It goes beyond the alleviation of hunger and feeds the spirit. It provides, for a night, what is forbidden. It creates memories and promises, and even helps heal loneliness and loss.
I am assuming that the establishment known as Guilty Pleasures does not yet exist. Will someone with a lot of money and a desire to make the world a better place, please open it.
Guilty Pleasures is a novel that works on all levels and is hugely entertaining – a breath of fresh air in a field where novelty is becoming increasingly rare.
Debut author, Manuela Cardiga, arouses all senses in her stunning novel of epicurean and sexual pleasures.
Guilty Pleasures is hilarious, entertaining and erotic. Cardiga has an uncanny understanding of our deep rooted emotions and relationship with all thing pleasureful, but guilt inducing.
Her main protagonists are wonderfully flawed, yet at heart, both as courageous and romantic as long forgotten princesses and knights in shining armor.
Beautifully written, in at times Victorian-like prose, Guilty Pleasures is a must read and will surely satisfy most readers’ hedonistic side.

5.0 out of 5 stars
I defy anyone to read this book and not wish it was scratch and sniff! The food in it is to die for, and the relationship between Lance/Will and Millie is equally fantastic, full of lust and UST. Guilty Pleasures has a great deal of humour alongside the romance and food porn. Some of the chapter openers – snippets from Lance’s book (which I REALLY want Manuela to write next!) – had me laughing out loud for days. And can we pause a minute to appreciate the cover… *sigh* I highly recommend this wonderful debut novel.

New Adult, Erotic Romance
Breakout New Adult sensation Monica Murphy returns with a hot new contemporary romance—a heartfelt story of second chances, forgiveness, and redemption.
Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitress job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.
I love him desperately, but he’s got so many demons, and if he can’t open up to me now, then he’ll never be the real partner I need him to be. I gave him a month, and now I’m out of here. If he truly loves me like he says, he knows where to find me.
Plot: 4. While the blurb of this book gives a very simplistic idea of what’s going on in this story, trust me when I tell you there is so much more here. This story has a more complex plot dealing with Jen’s desperation to escape her family’s grief over the death of her brother and Colin’s almost crippling grief over Danny’s death. I don’t want to give too much away, but trust me that it’s even better that described!
Sex: 4. Oh the buildup in this book. I didn’t think these two were ever going to pull their heads out of their butts and get to it. When they did, someone should have called Smokey the Bear because they were igniting sparks all over the pages. The chemistry between Colin and Jen was almost tangible. Each and every scene was passionate, meaningful and most importantly, believable – perfectly executed. I think I sighed audibly on more than one occasion.
Overall: 4. I read this in a couple of hours without stopping. This was not by choice, but due to the fact that I couldn’t put it down. Reading this story was intense. I was instantly drawn to these two characters and I couldn’t help want to scream for them to get out of their own heads and just open up to each other. The fact that they are both so obviously in love with each other, fiercely protective of one another, but both still wracked with grief over secrets they carry and over the death of their loved one was a journey in emotions for me. This story felt so realistic and ripped my heart out at times over Colin’s noncommittal stance and Jen’s desperation for him to just love her. Ms. Murphy has written a wonderful story that I hope you do not miss out on. If you’re a fan of a “tug at your heartstrings” romance novels, Three Broken Promises is for you.

A love that has other plans Giving in to temptation has never been so wonderful even as both have their reasons to make sure the relationship doesn’t get too deep. But the wolf knows what he wants and he wants the Siren. Warning: This book contains adult content because it is a romance between a wolf and a Siren!
Lexi made a face, “You know that will never happen. Skin is where I go if I want to escape my sisters’ attempts to pry into my life but if I worked here….” Feeling a change in the air, Lexi abruptly stopped talking and twisted around to see what could have caused it. She very nearly spontaneously combusted when she saw Him. It was an unfamiliar, and slightly terrifying, reaction for her to have towards anyone, especially a stranger. Usually she enjoyed admiring from afar with a cool detachment but that wasn’t possible in this case. One thought crowded out all of the others: this man was a warrior, sleek, strong, powerful and a little bit dangerous. And virile. Definitely virile. His mere presence was playing havoc with her hormones from across the room. There was no telling what he would do to her up close and personal and a delicious shiver went down her spine at the thought. From where she stood, she appreciated the way he wore his clothes, wondering how he would look out of them. He was very well-dressed, very expensively dressed, in a dark, Italian suit and a white shirt, the whiteness emphasizing his golden skin. Her fingers curled into her palm at the thought of touching that carved jaw, those lush lips. And she saw that those lips were set in a firm line as he surveyed the room with piercing eyes, not missing a thing. He looked like he was checking the space out for danger except he was the most dangerous thing there. The wool-clad warrior was a devastatingly handsome man, with a sculpted face: a strong jaw, high cheek bones and a straight nose, softened only by lips that were made for sin, lush and wicked. His raven black hair was short but long enough to drag her fingers through. It was also perfect without a single strand out of place and she had the strangest urge to walk up to him and just muss it up a bit. She could imagine him with tousled hair, looking down at her with that intense gaze as he moved over her…. Whoa, too far. She told herself to rein in the lustful thoughts and just admire. “You’re drooling, Lexi,” Dima whispered in her ear. “I am not,” she shot back, surreptitiously wiping at the corners of her mouth making Dima laugh. Leaning back, keeping her eyes on the new-comer, she asked, “Who do you think he is?” “I don’t care who he is,” Dima breathed into her ear, his attention diverted as well. “Who’s the redhead he’s with?” Lexi turned her head slightly and saw the pretty, little redhead hanging on the god’s arm, a sultry smile playing about her lips as she looked around the crowded bar. She said something and the dark warrior bent his head to hear her and a rush of desire crashed through Lexi’s body at the move. “Do you think they’re together?” “God I hope not,” Dima murmured. “Look at them, Dima. They are so very comfortable with one another,” Lexi said, holding out her arm in the man’s direction. “They’re probably together, their bodies move together as if they are intimately familiar. And they both reek of wealth and prestige, like they belong at the country club and not in a bar like this. She should be drinking a Manhattan and I think his preferred drink would be a martini….” “Shaken, not stirred,” Dima finished in a quasi-British accent, causing them both to laugh. “Stop that,” Lexi grinned, swatting at his arm and hitting air, her eyes never leaving the man. She tilted her head to the side in thoughtful contemplation for he was magnetic and she was mesmerized. Her lips curled upwards in an appreciative smile as he helped the redhead out of her coat, setting it on the back of her chair as he held it out for her. “Nice. Do you think he might like blond?” “I like blond,” Dima countered absently. “Brunette, black… but I think tonight I prefer red.” After a moment of silence, he leaned across the bar and asked, “So, do we take a divide and conquer approach so I can have the redhead and you can have the man she’s with?” “I don’t think so,” Lexi frowned. “He’s for looking and not touching.” “But she’s for touching,” Dima purred, his breath moving across Lexi’s bare shoulder. “Snag his attention so I can make a move on the girl.” “You’re a sick bastard,” Lexi teased, enjoying the view as the man remained standing, looking around the bar with a certain arrogance she found appealing. The man was very much a ‘look but don’t touch’ and Lexi needed to leave before she gave in to the impulse to touch, knowing she’d want so much more if she touched. She’d want it all. Tearing her gaze away from perfection-incarnate, she faced Dima with a frown, “I’ve really got to go.” “Here,” he said, pulling out two fresh shot glasses and filling them with the foul-tasting tequila. “Do one more shot with me before you go.” “Why? I’m already a little buzzed. One more and I’ll be worthless.” “I need the courage so I can steal Red away from the big bad wolf.” She took a deep breath and let it out, a low, painful groan emanating from the back of her throat as she narrowed her eyes and glared at the two glasses. “Fine.” “That’s my girl,” he grinned, sprinkling salt on his hand once again and holding it to her mouth. She held his gaze as she slid her tongue over his flesh, seeing the flash of dark humor in his eyes as she did so. She really hated tequila and if she was smart, she’d have refused the last shot. But she needed something to fortify her resolve to not touch. With a little whimper, she took the tequila and slammed it, quickly taking the lime from Dima’s mouth. With a shudder, she wiped the back of her hand against her mouth, “God, that’s disgusting.” Dima laughed, “My turn.”

• 1 of 3 paperback copies • 1 of 15 digital copies About the Author: Like most writers, I spend most of my time telling myself stories and writing them down when they get too loud to remain in my head. The characters are very demanding, wanting to go out into the world to be discovered by millions of adoring readers, though they are most satisfied with having only a few readers that truly love them. From the gargoyles that sit on top of the roofs to the Siren who lures her wolf astray to the Aradians and Apocritae to those who battle evil, the characters won’t be satisfied until their stories are told. Of course, none of this would be possible without the love and support of my very loving and very tolerant family: my husband who encourages me to keep writing even when I act a little insane in regards to the worlds in my head, and my three kids who help out so much when I get lost in those same, darn worlds. They politely listen as I go on and on about my characters’ motivations and back stories, their connections within the worlds created and how they fight to gain control of their destinies. But I am a cruel writer and make them earn their happy endings. Since I am also a Romantic at heart, they are all happy endings. My books are hot and oftentimes sweet, mostly steamy supernatural and romantic.
